With ours smiles we can create worlds. We are called the gentler sex, the weaker sex, the better half. We are artists. We create not only art but bring life into the world itself. We are entertainers. We are full of passion. We nourish. We provide a safe heaven in our arms for our children and partners. We inspire. We create. We live. We are mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, wives. We are Women.

Sadly in this world not all women have the opportunities that many of us take for granted. Many women are still uneducated; they are treated as commodity, property, and they are abused, disadvantaged. Many young girls are married off to older men before they are physically fully developed, having children before their bodies are able to bear children, many dying during labour or suffering consequences of it. Many female children get abandoned because they are not the preferred sex. Many women get paid less than men do for same job, and women in top level positions in corporate world are still a rare sight. We need to change this. We need to give strength and hope; we need to love, to empower. We need to reach for our dreams, for the stars. We need to be able to help those wanting to reach their dreams; we need them to be able to dream those dreams.

As a part of worldwide celebration of International Women’s Day, a UN sponsored event, we have decided to extend the celebrations for the whole week to celebrate everything woman, to celebrate the creations, our inspirations, to empower. We want to wipe off tears for all disadvantaged women, to give them the strength to reach for their dreams and be able to stand with the equal footing with men.

With the amazing army of volunteers and DeviantART staff we have decided to put up a week of celebration, and since it is a community driven event it is up to you to make it a success.

As you all already suspect we are planning International Women's Week March 3 - March 9 on DeviantArt, to be able to celebrate March 8th - International Women's Day. IWD is a UN sponsored event with the goal to raise the awareness of the women's issues worldwide.

As many of you already have read, or know, women had to fight for their equal footing with the men, and in some parts of the world they are still very underprivileged. We as women still get paid less than men for same positions, a lot of us are undereducated, a number are being treated as commodity even slavery, forced into prostitution... We even have girls at extremely young age being forced into marriage with much older men, and what makes it even worse their bodies are underdeveloped for childbearing and many die during childbirth or suffer later from side-effects of it, such as weak bladder and lowering of the uterus, being outcasted by community and families. We still struggle to break the glass ceilings in the corporate world, and in many parts of the world women do not have right to vote, or even speak up.

So in order to change this, to give all those young women hope, and a drive to succeed we wanted to organise the event that will empower women, that will give women and girls strength to reach for their dreams, that extra push they need.

This is a community driven event, meaning in order for event to succeed we need everyone help. More people help out contributing to this event, the event will get bigger and better.

A bit back I have asked for volunteers from the community to help me with this event and I was overwhelmed with the response. Thank you everyone who raised their hand. I have tried to note everyone who has responded to my poll trying to organise people that will help drive this event and take the bulk of the work writing the articles, helping with stamps etc...

We also have a number of DA staff helping out with the events that will take place.

1. if you want to make a stamp let me know and I will be happy to pimp it and add you to the list of volunteers

6. If you are on list of volunteers below and dont know what to do let me know and I will be happy to come up with something to help with
7. Any help is appreciated, even small actions when done by many people amount to huge things. We really need everyone to jump in with this one to make it success.
8. Please feel free to promote this event (yes we need promoters and cheerleaders) through your journals, your signatures, use of the stampies etc... We need everyone to know everyone to join in the fun
